Shopify revamp assessment for a premium pashmina brand
An initial development assessment for a craft-led luxury brand that wanted new navigation, editorial landing pages and richer product pages on Shopify.
Prepared for a prospective client in June 2026. The brand is not named because the engagement did not go ahead.
The brief
The brand already had a strong craft-led Shopify store with editorial journal content and gifting. It wanted to revamp navigation, page structure and the overall look while keeping its heritage positioning.
Key requirements
- Gifting-first top navigation: Gifting, Women, Men, Home, Collections, About
- Technique-led discovery: Kani, Sozni, Ari, Metallic and Contemporary
- Format-level discovery: shawl, stole, scarf
- Editorial Women landing page and technique pages that explain the craft before showing products
- Richer product pages: gallery, swatches, specs, accordions, related products
- Editable announcement bar and seasonal content areas
Recommended approach
Standard Shopify development on a strong base theme rather than a theme built from scratch. After a technical review, decide whether to keep the existing premium theme or move to Dawn, based on code quality, app dependencies, product data, performance and long-term maintainability.
Metafield-driven product data
Product and collection metafields for fibre, technique, pattern, dimensions, weave time, origin, care and delivery, so the in-house team can manage craft details and products without a developer for every change.
Phased plan (8–10 weeks)
- 1. Technical review and planning
- 2. Base theme and staging setup
- 3. Navigation and collection architecture
- 4. Landing, gifting, technique and collection templates
- 5. Product detail pages
- 6. Metafields and content structure
- 7. QA, performance and launch
Team and observations
A focused team of 3–4: Shopify technical lead, front-end developer, QA and content support, and project coordination. Gifting-first navigation suits high-intent buyers, technique-led discovery can become a real differentiator, and visible hygiene issues such as stray translation strings should be cleaned up during the revamp.
FAQs
- Why not build a custom theme from scratch?
- A strong base theme with custom sections and templates delivers the same experience faster and is easier to maintain; a from-scratch build only makes sense if the base theme cannot support the requirements.
- Why use metafields for product information?
- Craft details like technique, fibre, weave time and origin change per product. Metafields let the brand’s team edit them in Shopify admin and show them consistently across product pages.
- Why is the brand not named?
- This was an assessment for a prospective client and the engagement did not go ahead, so we describe the approach without identifying the brand.
